The terms on which we hire equipment to you, including our cancellation and refund policy · Last updated: August 2026
These terms apply when you hire camping and overlanding equipment from Bushbound Rentals (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), CIPC registration number 2026/556953/07, of 13 La Quinta Street, Silver Lakes, Pretoria. By placing a booking or paying online, you agree to these terms.
You must be 18 or older and hold a valid South African identity document or driver's licence, which we check and record at collection. You confirm that the details you give us are true and that you are entitled to enter into this agreement.
When you book online, you pay the hire fee for your chosen package and dates, plus a delivery fee if you ask us to deliver rather than collect. This payment is taken securely through PayFast, a licensed South African payment provider. Your card details are entered on PayFast's systems, never on ours.
A separate refundable damage deposit is taken at collection, not online, unless we agree otherwise with you in writing. The deposit is security against the equipment — it is not part of the hire fee. Delivery, where selected, is free within 50 km of Silver Lakes, Pretoria, or R300 further out, up to our outer delivery limit of 75 km — you'll see which zone applies to you before you book.
The deposit is held, not earned. We hold it against loss, theft, damage beyond fair wear and tear, late return, missing items, or the cost of cleaning equipment returned excessively dirty.
After the equipment is returned and checked, we refund the deposit — less any amount properly owing — within three (3) working days. Where we deduct anything, we tell you why and, for repairs or replacement, provide a genuine quote or receipt.
You may cancel a booking at any time. Because a late cancellation costs us a slot we often cannot re-let, the amount of your hire fee we refund depends on how much notice you give before your collection date:
| Notice before collection | Hire fee refunded |
|---|---|
| 48 hours or more | 100% — full refund of your hire fee |
| Between 24 and 48 hours | 50% of your hire fee |
| Less than 24 hours | No refund of the hire fee |
Your damage deposit is always refunded in full when you cancel, whatever the notice — it was only ever held, not earned. If you paid a delivery fee, that's always refunded in full too, regardless of notice — see section 9.
We refund the amount you paid online to the same card or account you paid from, through PayFast. We process eligible refunds promptly once your cancellation is confirmed. Depending on PayFast's processing and your own bank, a refund can take up to 7–10 business days to reflect in your account.
If for any reason a refund cannot be processed automatically, we will always arrange it with you directly — a cancellation never means your money is simply lost.
We may occasionally have to cancel a booking — for example if equipment is damaged or unavailable. If we cancel, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid. We are not otherwise liable for any indirect loss arising from a cancellation.
Equipment is due back by the agreed time on the return date, with a grace period until 12:00 (midday). After midday, a full day's hire is charged for each day, or part of a day, that the equipment is late. If your return is delayed by something genuinely beyond your control, tell us as soon as you can — we would always rather hear from you and work it out.
We check the equipment with you at collection and record its condition on a condition sheet, which you sign. We do the same on return. Existing marks are recorded and never charged to you — you are only ever responsible for a change in condition that happens while the equipment is in your care. You must return the equipment on the agreed date, in the same condition it was collected in, fair wear and tear excepted.
The full terms of the hire — including your responsibilities, loss and damage, and cross-border travel — are set out in our Equipment Hire Agreement, which you sign at collection and which, together with the signed condition sheet, forms the complete agreement between us for your hire.
From collection until return, the equipment is in your care and at your risk. If it is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond fair wear and tear, you are responsible for the reasonable cost of repair or replacement, less an allowance for fair wear and tear based on its age and condition. We always base any charge on a genuine quote or replacement cost and show it to you.
Where you choose delivery, we deliver within our delivery area for the fee shown at booking — free within 50 km of Silver Lakes, or R300 further out, up to 75 km. If you cancel before we have delivered, your delivery fee is refunded in full, no matter how much notice you give — the tiered scale in section 4 applies only to the hire fee, since no delivery run happens for a trip that's already been cancelled. If your hire has already started, please contact us and we'll deal with it fairly.
You use the equipment at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any injury, death, loss or damage arising from the use of the equipment or from your trip, except to the extent caused by our own gross negligence, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss such as a spoiled trip. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 that cannot lawfully be excluded.
